Learn how to quickly spot email scams

I'm sure at one point, most of you have recieved an email from someone trying to steal your personal information or promising you millions of dollars. Email scams are one of the most serious threats on the internet, and sometimes ruin lives. Imagine you are new to internet banking and you recieve an email appearing to be from your bank stating that you need to login to confirm your account details. You then try to login, but afterwards you just get an error message. Then the next morning you wake up, go to the bank to find out what all of the fuss was about, and they tell you that your account had been wiped out over night. Now your out thousands of dollars. These emails many times look 100% real and legit, but there are a few ways to tell they are fake. Below is a list of signs to watch out for when you open your emails.

1: Always pay close attention to the "from" email address, in most cases there will be one small difference between a scammers email, and that of the real company.

2: Carefully read the email, most of the time the sender will be very illiterate and will misspell many words.

3: Watch for key phrases such as, "dear sir/madam" or "is your item/advert still for sale?" (If they are legit, they will be more specific)

4: If you do click on the link in the email, check the url of the page you are sent to, If it is a scam site, it will obviously read different than the real site.

5: Watch out for anyone trying to pay you with cashier checks or money orders.

6: If they are offering you money for virtually nothing, It is a scam.

7: The best way to avoid all of this is, do not click on any email links, If you feel that it is legit, go to the actual site and login from there.
